For Mac · On your own Cloudflare account

The DIY video hosting Kitset.

Kitset is a Mac app that builds a video site in your own Cloudflare account, using Cloudflare’s low storage costs and free delivery so video hosting can be cost-effective.

Drop a video > Kitset encodes adaptive streams on your Mac and uploads them to your R2 bucket > You get a link to a fast, clean player page. All managed from your desktop.

Kitset has no subscription. You pay Cloudflare only for what you store because R2 doesn’t charge for delivery.

A clean page with an adaptive player that suits the screen and the connection. There are no ads, no suggested videos and no logos. Further customisation is possible with your own custom page template. See it on the demo site.

Assembly instructions

Six steps.

Kitset sets up your Cloudflare account once. After that, every video takes one drag and drop.

    Share the link

Every video gets its own page on your domain. An unlisted video gets a random part in its link, so nobody can guess it.

Also in the box

Everything a small video site needs

Visibility

Public or unlisted

Public videos can show on your home page. Unlisted videos are excluded, and only people with the link can find them. The public home page is optional. Without it, you share direct links to the player pages, or embed the videos on your own site.

Viewers

Browse unlisted videos

Nobody needs to sign in to watch a video from its link. To let people browse your unlisted videos on the home page, invite them with a link. They sign in with a passkey, so there is no password to remember.

Migration

Move off Vimeo

Vimeo Sync imports your account with titles, descriptions, thumbnails and subtitles, including videos in cold storage. Run it again to import new ones.

Bulk upload

A spreadsheet of videos

Give Kitset a CSV of files, titles and references. It encodes the next video while it uploads the current one, and continues where it stopped.

Subtitles

Add them at any time

Drop .srt or .vtt files with the video, or add them later. A change to the subtitles does not encode the video again.

Replace

New cut, same link

Replace a video and keep its page, its title and every embed. The old version stays live until the new one is ready.

Design

Your fonts, your template

Choose automatic, light or dark pages, any Google font or your own font files, or write your own HTML template. Kitset copies fonts into your R2 bucket, so viewers never connect to Google.

Embeds

Use it on your other sites

Paste a video’s embed code into your website, and it shows just the player. Or play the HLS and DASH streams in your own player. Each poster also has a fixed address.

Audio

Consistent loudness

Choose web level (−14 LUFS), broadcast level (−24 LUFS) or the original audio, for the site or for one video.

Running costs

You pay Cloudflare for storage. Watching is free.

A video platform hosts your videos for you and charges you for a plan. With Kitset, you pay Cloudflare directly, at Cloudflare’s own prices, in your own account.

  • US$0.015for each GB a month in R2, after the first 10 GB
  • US$0for R2 bandwidth, however many people watch
  • US$0for the player pages on the Workers free plan, up to 100,000 requests a day

Cloudflare can change its prices. Check its pricing pages for the current rates.

Work out your storage cost

  1. Find the size of your library. Kitset stores about 5.8 GB for each hour of 1080p video, and about 15 GB for each hour of 4K video.
  2. Take away the 10 GB that R2 includes each month.
  3. Multiply the rest by US$0.015. That is your storage cost for a month.
LibrarySizeA monthA year
2 hours of 1080p12 GBUS$0.03US$0.36
20 hours of 1080p116 GBUS$1.61US$19.26
100 hours of 1080p581 GBUS$8.57US$102.78
50 hours of 4K752 GBUS$11.13US$133.56

Sizes use Kitset’s target bitrates with stereo audio, so real files vary with the picture. R2 also charges for requests above a free monthly allowance. Cloudflare serves most requests from viewers from its edge cache, so few of them reach R2. Prices are Cloudflare’s published rates, checked in November 2026.

Try Kitset free with up to five videos. Five videos probably fit in R2’s free 10 GB, so the trial usually costs nothing at Cloudflare either. Then buy the licence that suits you. Every licence has every feature.

Kitset shows this name on each Mac that uses the licence. Check the spelling, because it is part of the key.

A Personal or Commercial licence is for one person, on all of their own Macs and sites. Each person who publishes with Kitset needs their own licence, and you can buy several in one purchase.

Each licence includes every update to its major version, for example every 1.x release. A new major version will be a paid upgrade, at a lower price for owners. Your site keeps running whether you upgrade or not.

To compare Kitset with a video platform, add your Cloudflare storage cost from the table above to the price of the licence. Then compare the total with the cost of the platform’s plan.

Kitset does not check which licence you buy. We trust you to choose the right one.

If Kitset is not right for you, you can get a full refund within 30 days. See the terms and the refund policy.

No lock-in

Your site does not need Kitset to keep running.

Every file, the Worker and the settings are in your own Cloudflare account. If you stop using Kitset, your videos keep playing at the same links.

  • Standard filesHLS and DASH work in every modern player, so you can take them anywhere.
  • No middlemanKitset talks to Cloudflare directly. Your videos never pass through our servers.
  • No trackingThe built-in pages load nothing from other companies, not even fonts.

Questions

Before you open the box

Do I need to know how Cloudflare works?

No. Kitset guides you through the setup steps, with a link to each Cloudflare page that you need. You create one token, and Kitset does the rest. After an update, Kitset offers to check your setup and to update the page Worker.

What do I need before I start?

A Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 15 or later, a Cloudflare account and a domain on Cloudflare. The free Cloudflare plan is enough. R2 asks for a payment method, but it includes 10 GB of storage each month at no charge, so your trial videos are unlikely to cost anything. A separate domain only for video keeps your main website and email out of the way.

Which licence do I need?

Buy a Personal licence for personal use, such as family videos, travel or a hobby. Buy a Commercial licence for commercial use, on your own sites or on sites that you manage for clients.

Personal and Commercial licences are for one person, so a team of three people who publish needs three licences. From six people, the Organisation licence costs less, and one key is for everyone in the organisation. Viewers, and the people who watch your videos, need no licence.

Are updates free?

Every update to your major version is free, for example every 1.x release. A new major version will be a paid upgrade, at a lower price for owners. Your site keeps running whether you upgrade or not.

Can I bring my videos from Vimeo?

Yes. Kitset guides you through making a Vimeo access token. Then you choose the videos, and Kitset imports them with their titles, descriptions, thumbnails and subtitles. If your Vimeo plan does not give access to the files, download them to a folder and Kitset matches each file to its video.

Can I keep a video private?

Make it unlisted. It gets a link that nobody can guess, and it stays off your public home page. Anyone who has the link can watch it. Kitset has no passwords for videos and no DRM.

How good is the picture?

Kitset uses the hardware encoder in your Mac, so it is fast. The files are a little larger than a slower software encoder makes at the same quality.

Can I use my own player?

Yes. Every video has HLS and DASH playlists and a poster at fixed addresses. Add your website to the list of other players, and its player can read them.

Is there a version for Windows or Linux?

Not at the moment. Kitset is for Mac only.
