Settings and upgrades

Kitset has two kinds of settings. Settings has the settings of this Mac. Site Settings has the settings of one site, which every Mac of the site shares.

Settings of this Mac

Open Kitset ▸ Settings… (⌘,).

Uploads

The Uploads tab of Settings
  • Default upload speed: the limit that each new upload starts with, from 25 Mbit/s to Unlimited. You can change the limit of an upload while it runs, for example when you need the network for a video call.
  • Parallel uploads: how many requests Kitset sends at the same time: 1, 2, 4 or 8. The default is 8.
  • Part size: Kitset sends a large file in parts of this size: 5, 8, 16 or 32 MiB. The default is 32 MiB.

Try lower values for Parallel uploads and Part size if uploads fail with a lost connection. Smaller parts mean more requests, and R2 charges for requests above a free monthly allowance. A change applies when the next upload starts.

Sites

The sites of this Mac, each with Open and Site Settings…, and the buttons Set Up a Site… and Join with a Code…. See Several sites.

Updates

Kitset checks for a new version once a day. When it finds one, it shows the release notes of each version since your version. Click Install Update to install it. Kitset then asks to relaunch.

  • Check for updates automatically: on by default.
  • Download and install updates automatically: Kitset downloads a new version with no question, and installs it when you quit Kitset.

Kitset ▸ Check for Updates… checks at once. If Kitset has work in progress when it is ready to relaunch, for example a publish or a Vimeo sync, it asks first. Click Wait, and Kitset relaunches when the work ends.

Kitset installs only the updates of its major version. See Updates.

Licence

Your licence, or the state of the trial. See Licences and the trial.

Settings of a site

Open Kitset ▸ Site Settings… (⌥⌘,), or click the gear in the Library toolbar.

Tab What it has
Site The bucket and the hostnames, the page folder and the home page.
Design The template, the fonts and the stylesheets.
Player The controls and the colours of the player.
Embedding The sites that can embed your videos, and the other players.
Audio The default audio loudness.
Collaborators Invites and tokens.
Viewers The people who sign in to the home page.
Vimeo The Vimeo token of this site. See Moving from Vimeo.
Cloudflare The page Worker, the Cloudflare Account API Token of this Mac, and Remove from This Mac….
The Cloudflare tab of Site Settings

The tabs Site, Design, Player and Audio keep your changes until you click Save in the bar at the bottom.

Upgrade a site

An upgrade checks each Cloudflare setting of your site and repairs what is not in place. It also updates the page Worker when Kitset has a newer one. An upgrade does no harm to a site whose settings are correct.

After an update of Kitset, the Library asks Upgrade Your Site?. Click Upgrade. You can also upgrade at any time: open Site Settings ▸ Cloudflare, and click Upgrade….

The Upgrade window shows the same steps as the setup, each with its state. Then it tests a real request: it downloads a playlist from the media hostname, as a player on your pages does. A correct setting does not prove that a browser can play the video, and this test does.

The Upgrade window after a check, with each step in place
  • When each setting is in place, click Done.
  • When a setting needs your attention, the step tells what to do, often with a link to the dashboard. Click Try Again after you fix it. A new rule can need a few minutes to reach every Cloudflare location.

An upgrade needs the Cloudflare Account API Token, and it asks for Touch ID. A Mac without that token gets no offer to upgrade.

The Page Worker section of the Cloudflare tab shows the version of the Worker on the site and the version in this app.

When to upgrade

  • After each update of Kitset.
  • When videos stop playing on your pages, for example after a change in the Cloudflare dashboard. A missing CORS rule or Cache Rule stops playback with no message.
